Kregel Publications is seeking an innovative, experienced, and successful Marketing Director to oversee and articulate vision for the marketing team for both academic and trade imprints. The ideal candidate will bring direct experience with the marketing of Christian non-fiction and fiction genres and be a team- and goal-oriented leader. This position reports to the Publisher and must be on-site in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, develop, and manage the marketing strategy and its execution for all Kregel imprints
  • Establish and oversee all industry and consumer facing imprint branding efforts and campaigns for approximately 50-60 new titles per year as well as a full backlist
  • Determine and manage appropriate marketing budgets
  • Direct, lead, and supervise marketing manager and marketing and sales associate
  • Ensure the continuing development of marketing staff’s professional skills through appropriate training and personal study
  • Develop series marketing campaigns and key-title marketing campaigns for 10-15 major titles each year
  • Identify opportunities for enhancing and improving campaigns—new tools, platforms, partners, outlets, best practices, marketing trends, etc.
  • Execute best practices for metadata for both front and backlist titles
  • Incorporate and analyze data to refine advertising, promotion, and social media strategies while keeping up-to-date on new platforms and marketing methods
  • Pitch organizations, social media influencers, and partners for cross-promotional opportunities
  • Along with the Publisher, collaborate with the sales department regarding sales strategy, events, and conferences
  • Work collaboratively with sales and editorial colleagues and communicate directly with authors and agents to maximize campaign effectiveness including increasing social media presence and building author brand

 POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:

Lead marketing department with direction, planning, schedules, and strong communication across editorial and sales departments, and with Publisher

Take direction from the Publisher regarding strategy, priorities, and special assignments so that management objectives and priorities are achieved



Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA in Marketing, Communications, Publicity, or related field; prefer additional graduate-level work in biblical studies, theology, or related field
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of progressively increasing marketing management experience with a keen understanding of title marketing and interest in a wide variety of books for adults and young readers, the academy, and ministry
  • Demonstrated leadership; project, budget, and staff management; organizational, communication, and prioritization skills
  • Strong creative vision and brand building experience
  • Proven ability to create strong integrated campaigns, including traditional as well as paid social, programmatic and SEO strategies
  • Knowledge of the changing book marketing landscape and analytical skillsets to optimize campaigns for ROI and develop audience insights and targeting strategies that reach existing fans while always looking to expand the audience
  • Knowledge of metadata best practices and ability to optimally position books on retailer sites and in search capacities
  • Ability to conceive unique marketing positions and successfully execute consumer-facing campaigns
  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude, with an excellent work ethic and strong attention to detail
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills, along with engaging presentation skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of analytics for optimizing campaigns
  • MS Office Suite required; experience with Mailchimp, Wordpress, Adobe Creative Suite, Edelweiss, and Hootsuite a plus
