Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company seeks an experienced and creative Director of Marketing to plan and manage the marketing strategies of the company, including the children’s imprint, Eerdmans Books for Young Readers.

This position directly oversees a team of five (plus an intern), as they carry out the activities of the marketing department, including publicity, digital marketing, social media, website, advertising, awards, direct mail, and promotions. The Director of Marketing is responsible for creating and monitoring the marketing department budget and rigorously analyzing the outcomes of marketing campaigns.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Plan and implement comprehensive marketing plans for forthcoming titles, and provide detailed marketing plans as needed for acquisitions editors

· Create, update, and monitor the Marketing Department budget for each fiscal year

· Periodically review and analyze effectiveness and cost of marketing efforts

· Participate in bi-weekly Leadership Team meetings to review and offer input on overall company strategy, progress, and goals

· Participate in weekly Publishing Committee meetings to evaluate projects for possible acquisition

· Evaluate acquisitions projects both before and during Publishing Committee review to provide feedback on the marketing and publicity potential of prospective authors and proposals

· Work with authors as needed to evaluate and enhance their marketing platforms and

coordinate the marketing efforts of each

· Oversee the activity of the publicity department

· Oversee the work of the digital marketers, providing input on website content and design, videos, newsletters, giveaways, blog content, and social media content

· Oversee production of catalogs, printed promotional pieces, and jacket and cover copy, providing direction as needed and insuring deadlines are met

· Oversee the creation of advertising and marketing copy and design

· Oversee the launch process for all adult books

· Oversee the titling process for all adult books

· Participate in bi-monthly (or as needed) Eerdmans Books for Young Readers acquisitions meetings

· Collaborate closely with VP of Sales to align sales and marketing efforts

· Represent the company at trade shows and academic conferences as needed



Requirements

· BA in marketing, business, or related field; MBA desirable

· 5+ years experience in marketing, with publishing marketing experience strongly preferred

· 2+ years in departmental management experience

· Exceptional written and oral communication skills

· Familiarity with book publishing industry

· Familiarity with the markets/media environment into which Eerdmans publishes

· Informed and sympathetic understanding of the key subject areas in which we publish

· Strong knowledge of social media marketing

· Proven ability to create and carry out successful marketing campaigns

· Proven ability to provide strong and generous leadership to direct reports

· Strong sense of collegiality and collaboration with direct reports and colleagues in other departments

· Ability to travel

This position is temporarily remote, but will be based out of our Grand Rapids, MI, offices when we re-open.
