Description
Under the supervision of the MP Contracts & Subsidiary Rights Manager the Subrights Specialist is responsible for growth and administration of Moody Publisher’s subsidiary rights licensing program.
Essential Functions
- Manage subrights licensing, both domestic and international, in various markets such as foreign language translation, merchandise, film/tv, and other mediums across all formats.
- Work to expand the influence of Moody Publishers’ books and authors by engaging new licensing opportunities and partners.
- Proactively foster relationships with existing partners via email, video calls, and in-person meetings as appropriate, along with maintaining all correspondence and follow up communication.
- Pursue new licensing opportunities and evaluate potential partners to ensure shared values, integrity and compatibility, including reference verification.
- Negotiate licensing terms and conditions that reflect the need of each market, distribution platform, and content format(s).
- Collaborate with Contract Manager to draft, review, negotiate, and process licensing agreements.
- Develop and present seasonal frontlist titles, while curating a compelling backlist selection for major international and domestic book fairs (e.g., Frankfurt, London, Chicago, Krakow, Asia).
- Coordinate with editorial, marketing, and sales departments to gather materials for rights submissions and licensing partners.
- Maintain and update rights databases and tracking systems.
- Stay current on global publishing trends, international markets, and competitor rights activity.
- Perform other related and special duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business or equivalent related experience in media or subsidiary rights.
Preferred Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in subsidiary rights, foreign rights, or equivalent related sales role.
- Strong negotiation, written, and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized and detailed oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Understanding of domestic and international book markets and intellectual property rights.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and rights management systems.
Work Environment/Conditions
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee occasionally may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
This is a full-time hybrid position with working 3 days in the office: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with flex hours as needed.
Domestic and international travel is expected for this position.
